Summary of Gentoo council meeting 2021-10-10 Agenda ====== 1. Roll call 2. Operating model of Gentoo project and Gentoo Foundation [1] (from last month's agenda) 3. Open bugs with Council participation [2] 4. Open floor Roll call ========= Present: dilfridge, gyakovlev, marecki, mgorny, sam, ulm, zlogene (proxy for mattst88) Operating model of Gentoo project and Gentoo Foundation ======================================================= Alec Warner (the President of Gentoo Foundation) has asked whether the Council is willing to "be the body that decides how to spend Gentoo's money". The Council would advise the Foundation on what to do and the Trustees (and later, possibly an umbrella organization) would finally approve the expenses. - Motion: The Council will be responsible for approving Gentoo expenses going forward (with Trustees/umbrella reviewing Council decisions). Accepted unanimously. Open bugs with council participation ==================================== - Bug 736760 "Application to Software Freedom Conservancy": The Council decided to remove itself from the CC, leaving any further action to Trustees. - Bug 786105 "access to manage projects on GH" The Council discussed the request and reached no consensus. Considering that it was submitted just before the meeting, it was decided that it should be discussed on the mailing list first. - Bug 807193 "virtual/udev: switch to sys-fs/udev as primary provider on musl" It has been pointed out that there is no real need for Council decision here. Nevertheless, the Council voted as requested by the OP. Motion: approve switching the default virtual/udev provider to sys-fs/udev 6 yes, 0 no, 1 abstain -- motion passed. Open floor ========== The state of communication with various umbrellas was shortly summarized: - Software Freedom Conservancy has indicated that we are not a good fit for one another. - the communication Software in Public Interest was stalled again. - the discussion with Linux Foundation is ongoing and seems positive. - Open Source Collective is waiting for our decision. The progress of providing a Gentoo GitLab instance was discussed. It was pointed out that an instance is running already but it is not being "offered" yet. It lacks backups, CI, the setup is not final and only developers can log in.
